Always swim with your edge or side! Imagine that you are a sharp knife, on the edge of the blade, not a big soup spoon. If you want to swim a good freestyle, you must ensure that both side swimming are drilling, it requires rotating or rolling your body along your "long-axis" or spine. If you want to have a good experience on your rolling you should also try to take breaths on alternate sides.

Arms remain shoulder width apart, flex at elbows with line from fingertips through elbow moving towards pointing down a slightly inward.
